Checking
Your TCP/IP Properties for
Windows 95 & 98
In most cases you will not need to
change anything in this screen. The default configuration for
this is usually correct. However, you could experience
connection troubles if TCP/IP is not setup properly.
To check the TCP/IP protocol setting
you will need to open the the Control Pane and select the Network
icon.
When you have the component list open
select the TCP/IP entry as shown below (Or, if you have a component
listed called TCP/IP -> Dial-up Adapter, click that one).

With TCP/IP highlighted, press the
properties button. The TCP/IP dialog box should appear. There are six
sections in this box with a screen tab across the top for each section
The first section should be the IP
Address tab. The default option is "Obtain an IP address
automatically". Make sure this option is selected:

The second section is "WINS
Configuration".
Make sure "Use DHCP for WINS Resolution" is checked.
The third section is the tab that reads
"Gateway".
Leave this section blank. If there is an entry listed, highlight it by
clicking on it and click on "Remove"
The fourth section is the Bindings tab.
Leave this section as is.
The fifth section is the
"Advanced" tab.
The default options are correct, so no changes are needed.
The final section is the "DNS
Configuration".
Select the radio button "Disable DNS"
Click OK and let your Computer reboot
and go back to the Windows 95 &
98 setup instructions.
